{"id":147740,"date":"2025-07-09T14:22:57","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T19:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/?p=147740"},"modified":"2025-07-09T14:22:57","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T19:22:57","slug":"trump-administration-aims-to-stop-chinas-land-buys-near-u-s-military-bases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldtribune.com\/2025\/trump-administration-aims-to-stop-chinas-land-buys-near-u-s-military-bases\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump Administration aims to stop China&#8217;s land buys near U.S. military bases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>by<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"color: #006699;\"><strong>WorldTribune<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Staff<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>, July 9, 2025 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Real World News<\/span><\/a><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Defense Department has pointed out a noteworthy development: Land near 17 U.S. military bases and installations has been purchased by Chinese entities.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_147741\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-147741\" style=\"width: 402px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-147741\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/yumaprov.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"402\" height=\"243\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-147741\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Yuma Proving Ground is one of 17 U.S. military installations near which Chinese entities have purchased land.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bases are:<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Fort Lewis<\/strong> in Washington,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Camp Pendleton<\/strong> and <strong>Fort Irwin<\/strong> in California,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Yuma Proving Ground<\/strong> in Arizona,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Hill Air Force Base<\/strong> and <strong>Dugway Proving Ground<\/strong> in Utah,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Grand Forks Air Force Base<\/strong> in North Dakota,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Fort Hood<\/strong> and <strong>Camp Bullis<\/strong> in Texas,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Whiteman Air Force Base<\/strong> and <strong>Fort Leonard Wood<\/strong> in Missouri,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Fort Benning<\/strong> in Georgia,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Wright Patterson Air Force Base<\/strong> in Ohio,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>MacDill Air Force Base<\/strong> and <strong>Patrick Space Force Base<\/strong> in Florida,<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Fort Bragg<\/strong> in North Carolina, and<\/p>\n<p>__ <strong>Naval Station Norfolk<\/strong> in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins rolled out a new \u201cNational Farm Security Action Plan\u201d on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Rollins said her department would no longer allow \u201cChinese nationals\u201d to purchase farmland in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The USDA has already canceled seven agreements with foreign countries of concern and will seek to &#8220;claw back&#8221; farmland already been purchased in deals seen as a risk to national security, Rollins said.<\/p>\n<p>She was joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, with the group uniting to warn about the threats posed to U.S. agriculture and to U.S. national security by foreign adversaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForeign ownership of land near strategic bases and U.S. military installations poses a serious threat to our national security,\u201d Hegseth said. \u201cThe Farm Security Plan will put America First and keep our bases across the homeland secure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As someone who&#8217;s charged with leading the Defense Department, I want to know who owns the land around our bases and strategic bases, and getting an understanding of why foreign entities, foreign companies, foreign individuals, might be buying up land around those bases. That&#8217;s something I should be paying attention to, on behalf of the American people, on behalf of my department, and on behalf of the president,\u201d Hegseth said. \u201cIt\u2019s common sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth said that \u201cenergy security, food security, water security is national security\u201d and that \u201cwe care about homeland security\u201d at the Defense Department.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And so when you look at our bases here in the United States or around the world, we ought to know who owns that land around strategic bases. Where are they from?
