{"id":147995,"date":"2025-07-18T13:10:47","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T18:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/?p=147995"},"modified":"2025-07-18T13:10:47","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T18:10:47","slug":"18-states-still-allow-dudes-to-dominate-girls-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldtribune.com\/2025\/18-states-still-allow-dudes-to-dominate-girls-sports\/","title":{"rendered":"18 states still allow dudes to dominate girls\u2019 sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>by<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"color: #006699;\"><strong>WorldTribune<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Staff<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>, July 18, 2025 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Real World News<\/span><\/a><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump\u2019s executive order banning biological males from competing in girls sports is being ignored by 18 states, according to a group\u2019s compliance tracker.<\/p>\n<p>Defending Education\u2019s (DE) compliance tracker examines whether the 50 states are complying with \u201cTitle IX regarding single-sex spaces and single-sex interscholastic athletics\u201d in line with Trump\u2019s executive order \u201cdefending women from gender ideology extremism.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_147996\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-147996\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-147996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/minnsball.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"274\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-147996\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minnesota allowed a male pitcher to dominate the high school girls&#8217; softball state tournament this past season. \/ X<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Eighteen states were found to be openly defiant of the order that \u201cprotect[s] all-female athletic opportunities and all-female locker rooms\u201d based on \u201cpublic statements made by state officials or state policies,\u201d the tracker says.<\/p>\n<p>Those states are:<\/p>\n<p>California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the majority of states are compliant with Title IX, there are still 18 states, including the District of Columbia, that have chosen noncompliance as their hill to die on,\u201d Kendall Tietz, investigative reporter for Defending Education, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile young female athletes and students are forced to share single-sex spaces with biological males, leaders in states like California and Maine continue to play politics at the expense of women\u2019s rights,\u201d Tietz said. \u201cThese are not optional guidelines; they are legal obligations designed to protect students from sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment and assault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education found California in violation of Title IX on June 25, \u201cbut the [state] entities have refused to comply with federal civil rights law in order to ensure the state can harm as many women as possible,\u201d The Federalist\u2019s Breccan Thies reported last week.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Department of Education Superintendent Tony Thurmond published a statement on June 3 telling school administrators to keep allowing students to play on sports teams that mirror their \u201cgender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Maine for insisting that men should play women\u2019s sports, Maine\u2019s Attorney General Aaron Frey said there are \u201cno concerns of safety\u201d when it comes to females competing against males (and in some cases being seriously injured), and making women strip naked in front of men.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201ctrans refuge\u201d state, also known as Minnesota, also made it clear that it fully supports boys dominating girls sports in the state. \u201cFemale sports team participation in Minnesota is not restricted to the female sex,\u201d the Minnesota House of Representatives said. \u201cNor will it be anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maryland issued a statement in March making clear that \u201copportunities\u201d will \u201cremain accessible\u201d for boys to play on girls teams, saying Maryland has \u201calways been a state that values fairness, dignity, and inclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement also said Trump has \u201claunched an all-out assault\u201d on boys who say they are girls, calling for \u201c[l]eaders in the public and private sectors at all levels \u2026 to make full-throated declarations that transgender, nonbinary, and intersex youth, adults, and families will be protected and supported in Maryland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), the governing body for high school sports in New Jersey, said it hasn\u2019t had any complaints about boys playing on girls\u2019 teams, so the state is not going to abide by Trump\u2019s order.<br \/>\nWashington\u2019s Superintendent Chris Reykdal also published a statement in February saying Trump\u2019s order to protect women is \u201cdisregarding the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Oregon and Vermont allow students to choose their \u201cpreferred gender identity\u201d when it comes to playing on a sports team.
