{"id":149106,"date":"2025-08-26T14:22:20","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T19:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldtribune.com\/?p=149106"},"modified":"2025-08-26T14:22:20","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T19:22:20","slug":"democrats-ny-ca-nightmare-did-the-times-just-write-partys-political-obituary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldtribune.com\/2025\/democrats-ny-ca-nightmare-did-the-times-just-write-partys-political-obituary\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrats&#8217; NY-CA nightmare: Did the Times just write party\u2019s political obituary?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>by<\/em><\/span> <span style=\"color: #006699;\"><strong>WorldTribune<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Staff<\/em><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>, August 26, 2025 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldtribune.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Real World News<\/span><\/a><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As more and more Americans abandon Blue states and head for Redder pastures, Democrats can expect more misery from redrawn congressional maps, The New York Times warned.<\/p>\n<p>According to projections, the Blue-to-Red trend will continue for at least the next decade, the Times analysis indicates with fast-growing states such as Florida, Texas, Utah, and Idaho reaping the benefits of added congressional seats while California and New York would see a reduction in seats.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_149108\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-149108\" style=\"width: 488px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-149108\" src=\"http:\/\/worldtribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/NYTedboard-300x153.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"488\" height=\"249\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-149108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NY Times Editorial Board.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to the projections, Florida and Texas are expected to gain a combined five U.S. House seats in the next reapportionment if current population patterns hold.<\/p>\n<p>Utah and Idaho are each projected to add one seat.<\/p>\n<p>California is projected to lose three seats, Illinois two, and New York, Minnesota, and Rhode Island one each.<\/p>\n<p>As far as the 2026 midterms go, President Donald Trump\u2019s campaign to redraw House maps in GOP states \u201cwill make it tougher for Democrats to win back control of the chamber,\u201d The Hill reported, \u201cbut it won\u2019t knock them out of contention altogether, according to leading election handicappers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The newly-redrawn Texas lines are expected to flip as many as five Democrat seats to the GOP, and other Republican-led states \u2014 including Ohio and Florida \u2014 may follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>In California, Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom is pressing ahead with new maps that would likely flip five GOP seats into the Democrat column, \u201cbut the move is not a slam dunk,\u201d The Hill noted.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike in Texas, California law requires public approval of the changes before they can take effect. A recent poll revealed fewer than half of state voters support Newsom\u2019s effort.<\/p>\n<p>In Illinois, Democrats are eyeing new maps, but with only three Republicans in the entire delegation, their pickup opportunities are slim. Maryland, another Democrat-led state weighing a redistricting effort, has only one Republican in the House. And Democrats in New York, where Democrat Gov.
