Kathy Strong … has been honoring a strangers sacrifice, almost her entire life.

JamesMoreland“When I was a young girl I received a P.O.W. / M.I.A. bracelet from Santa in my Christmas stocking. The bracelet was simply inscribed spec five James Moreland 2/7/68, ” Strong said. The date was the day Green Beret Moreland went missing in Vietnam. Strong didn’t know much about him, only that he was 22, from Alabama, and had a great looking smile.

“I made a promise that Christmas day to wear his bracelet until James came home. It took over 38 years but on May 14, 2011, I was finally able to fulfill my promise, ” Strong said. She attended Moreland’s funeral in Alabama, the first and last time she would be physically united with her soldier. “I placed my bracelet on the left sleeve of his uniform, since I had worn his name on my left wrist,” Strong said. …

“He was just 22 years old and I just wanted to make sure that he had a legacy and that he’s not forgotten and future generations know who he was and what he sacrificed,” Strong said.
