For the weekend, at least 39 people were shot, six fatally, police said.

While not reported, it’s a safe bet that none of the shooting victims are trans.

Amid the ongoing drive-bys and gang shootings, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, took to X to declare what he termed a “Transfemicide State of Emergency.”

President Donald Trump said he has offered to assist Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker with crime in Chicago as he did in Washington, D.C. But the Democrats who run the city and state are not interested in Trump’s help.

Podcaster Matt Walsh noted that the mayor’s declaration is “beyond parody. And delusional. The trans murder rate is actually LOWER than the general population. And basically every trans murder victim is killed because of domestic issues, drugs, or prostitution. ‘Anti-trans hate crimes’ are a fantasy.”

Johnson was slammed on social media. Some of the responses to his post:

“Transfemicide State of Emergency” You are the worst mayor Chicago ever had. Worse than Lori Lightfoot.

“How about concentrating on keeping ALL Chicagoans safe. Stop dividing the city based on gender and race. That’s what real mayors do—they do good for ALL, not just a select few. Why not try that for a change.”

“Your people are killing each other and you are worried about chickswithdicks????”

“The wildest thing about “transfemicides” is that if you dig into the actual cases of it, it’s usually a black guy killing a black prostitute when he realizes his prostitute is a dude dressed up as a chick.”

“After another deadly weekend this is what the Mayor is focused on.”

Pastor Gene Robinson sent this message directly to Mayor Johnson:

Black Chicagoans are dying in the streets by the dozens every month in gang violence, drive-bys, and retaliation.

That’s the real emergency crushing families in Roseland, Englewood, Austin, and beyond. Not niche identity reports. Your city recorded historic low homicides in 2025 after the pandemic peak, but shootings and killings are still far too high in 2026 .. and residents in the hardest-hit neighborhoods see the same failed “root causes” approach while basic safety collapses.

Focus on clearing cases, getting guns off the street, prosecuting repeat violent offenders, and backing the police instead of more equity task forces.

Chicago doesn’t need more press releases on deviants belonging. It needs fewer bodies in the morgue.

Prioritize the majority of residents dying from everyday gun violence @ChicagosMayor While you’re rolling out another “Transfemicide” framework and task force, Chicago just had 5 killed and at least 22 shot this weekend alone .. including a drive-by mass shooting on the South Side that wounded 12+ people (ages 17-47) during Juneteenth.
