Francesca Hong, the Wisconsin socialist candidate who opposes Thanksgiving and wants to abolish the U.S. Senate and ICE, crashed in burned in epic style in losing Tuesday’s Democrat gubernatorial primary to a candidate who had pulled out of the race in early July only to re-enter less than two weeks later.
Leading by 18 points in the latest poll, Hong was expected to cruise to victory on Tuesday and then defeat the Republican challenger in November’s general election. Democrat Gov. Tony Evers did no seek re-election in a state that has no term limits.
The pollsters had Hong comfortably in the lead.

David Crowley, seen as a moderate compared to Hong, won the primary and will face GOP Rep. Tom Tiffany in the Nov. 3 general election.
“Hong might look as sweet and innocent as Sally Field, but she is without question an unstable, power-mad bigot who hates everything America stands for,” Breitbart’s John Nolte noted.
In an Instagram post, Hong congratulated Crowley on his victory and said she would “fully support him” in November.
“This campaign was not about getting one person into office,” she wrote. “It is about building a movement for permanent affordability and a government that puts working people first. Our movement is strong, and the work isn’t done. I am overwhelmingly proud of our team and the work they have done to achieve that goal.”
Crowley had ended his campaign July 8, saying it had “become clear” he would not be the Democrat nominee. The following day, he endorsed Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, who, within days, would announce she had fired her campaign manager for “serious mismanagement” of campaign finances.
Rodriguez withdrew from the race the morning of July 17. Crowley’s returned to the race the same day.
So what drove Wisconsin’s voters away from the polling favorite?
Critics say it was likely due to her policies, which included ending Wisconsin’s school choice program. She also “admitted to having a bipolar disorder, and called the police (she wants to abolish) twice over what she thought was a pro-Israel display,” Nolte noted.
“She once had an anxiety attack in a Culver’s (a family restaurant) because she could read the minds of all the racist, ‘old white people who didn’t think we spoke English.’ She was there with her son, who is half-white because her (poor) husband is white.”
Hong could have sat on her lead but didn’t.
“Her ego wouldn’t let her do that,” Nolte wrote. “Instead, her ego sent her out to step all over a field of rakes with a series of national television interviews that scared the hell out of Democrats.”
what about the pollsters? How could they get it this wrong?
Nolte noted:
In this case, if you look at the polling dates above, the pollsters’ one mistake was to stop polling a week and two weeks before Election Day under the assumption the race was over. Hong likely was ahead by double digits when those polls were taken. But by assuming the race was over, the pollsters missed the bottom dropping out of her campaign in the final two weeks of the campaign as she opened and reopened her mouth.
Pollsters made the same mistake during the 1948 presidential election. In poll after poll, Republican Thomas Dewey was so far ahead of incumbent Democrat Harry Truman, the polling stopped weeks before Election Day. Then Truman surged to victory, and that famous “Dewey Defeats Truman” photo was born.
