Big Tech’s ‘censorship engine’ called greatest threat to First Amendment freedoms

Big Tech continues to filter, suppress, and deplatform (mostly conservative) legally protected expression in what critics say is the greatest threat to the First Amendment freedoms of Americans.

Groups such as the America First Policy Institute contend that Big Tech wields unchecked power over public discourse and uses vague terms-of-service policies regarding “hate speech” or “misinformation” which result in viewpoint discrimination and effectively silences (mostly conservative) Americans.

“This isn’t a conspiracy theory; it’s a documented reality,” the Conservative Stack blog noted.

“Before Elon Musk’s courageous acquisition of Twitter, the platform worked in concert with government actors to suppress legitimate stories that were inconvenient to the Democratic party, most notoriously the Hunter Biden laptop story just weeks before the 2020 election. This wasn’t a mistake or a content moderation error—it was a deliberate act of election interference, plain and simple. President Donald J. Trump, while a sitting president, was permanently banned from the platform, an unprecedented act of political censorship that silenced the leader of the free world.”

From Facebook and Instagram to Google’s YouTube, “conservative creators, politicians, and everyday citizens find their content throttled, demonetized, or removed entirely for violating vague and inconsistently enforced ‘community standards.’ The message is clear: conform to the progressive worldview, or you will be silenced,” the blog stated.

WorldTribune.com has experienced this first hand.

An independent news platform published by East West Services, Inc. since 1999, WorldTribune.com early last year formally issued cease-and-desist letters to both Google LLC and Meta Platforms Inc. in response to years of sustained suppression of its editorial content and monetization streams.

In its letters, WorldTribune.com demanded an immediate halt to all undisclosed codes, algorithms, partnerships, and practices that have throttled the site’s reach across Google Search, Facebook, Gmail inboxing, and other critical platforms. These systemic barriers have caused steep declines in visibility, engagement, and revenue — damaging not just a company and its network of news professionals, but a tradition of independent journalism rooted in the principles of the American Free Press.

“The conservative movement is pushing back, led by innovators and leaders who understand that free expression is the bedrock of a free society,” the blog said. “President Trump, after being de-platformed, refused to be silenced and launched Truth Social, creating a safe harbor for pro-American speech online. His initiative demonstrated the market demand for platforms that respect open debate.”

Conservative outlets and individuals fighting back at what the blog described as the Big Tech “censorship engine” now have a new threat to contend with … AI.

“The same companies that built censorship into their social platforms are now building it into the foundational AI models that will shape our future. These systems are being trained on curated datasets that reflect the biases of their creators in Silicon Valley,” the blog said.

“We’ve already seen alarming examples of this bias in action. Google’s Gemini AI was caught generating historically inaccurate images and refusing to create positive depictions of conservative figures, revealing a deeply embedded progressive ideology. These AI models are not just search engines; they are becoming our assistants, tutors, and creative partners. If their core programming is hostile to conservative values, the result will be a subtle but pervasive form of censorship that will be even harder to detect and fight.

“The battle for free speech online is the defining political and cultural battle of our time. At stake is not just the ability to post an opinion, but the very foundation of our republic. An informed citizenry cannot exist without the free flow of information, and democracy cannot function when one side of the political spectrum is systematically suppressed.”
